I’m a Spanish teacher on a journey. I want to discover strategies and activities that help my students understand meaning of the language that is given through compelling comprehensible input. I want my students to understand what they listen to and what they read. I want them to be absorbed in the message.
I will be sharing this blog with my friend and colleague Amy Zimmer.

I am a Spanish teacher who loves creating materials for students. I have tried to teach with textbooks, but I have always drifted back to creating my own materials. I would say I am eclectic in that I utilize a wide variety of methods. Lately, I have been most interested in finding the right balance between what I need to lead in class to ensure a significant amount of comprehensible input and guided practice opportunities and giving students the tools they need to find their own resources to make their learning more meaningful and personal. I have consistently incorporated a lot of music in the classroom, from fun language learning songs to authentic music. This year students have been reading many TPRS novels during choice reading time and through instructional use of novels.
I am interested in connecting with others who are looking at personalized learning in the world language classroom, especially at novice levels. I have published two books through Eye on Education (now Routledge) entitled Activities, Games, and Assessment Strategies for the Foreign Language Classroom and Getting the Most out of your Interactive Whiteboard: A Practical Guide. I am excited that the Activities book was just released in a 2nd Edition as Activities, Games, and Assessment Strategies for the World Language Classroom in December 2014. I also enjoy presenting at our state world language conference: WAFLT. I feel fortunate to have a colleague and friend like Elena López, with whom I share my passion for creating, teaching and learning.
